"Who is the mysterious Barnzi character we here so much about? Barnzi is one of the many aliases of one Robert Barnes; a deposed Welshman originally from Swansea but now seems to have found himself a foreigner in an alien land."

I could write more along these lines, but I really can't be bothered at the moment as I am about to go to bed. Instead, I bring you my bio, neatly ripped from my LJ user info. See also: My CV

Who am I? I'm Spiderman.

My name is Robert Barnes. I'm known by various aliases across the Internet and real life: Barnzi, Tryst, Cruel and Cymru to name but four. Each is associated with a different aspect of my life. A very split way to approach things, but in the end I realised that I am Barnzi and each of these aliases are simply a part of my persona. These days there is a lot more crossover, and I am considering bringing everything together again under one name, one person.

I was born and bred in Swansea, South West Wales although I have no noticeable accent or mannerisms that give away the fact that I am Welsh. Generally, where ever I go, strangers get the impression that I am not local, but not far away either. Neither "one of us" or "one of them" I move through life's social circles easily; slipping from one to another without much fuss or fanfare.

I have an undeniable inferiority complex that makes me keep a low profile. I don't really feel that people are interested in me, so I get along and do my own thing, drawing little attention to myself. I occasionally feel guilty about my achievements, but I am getting over that.

In some things, I excel. My academic career is outstanding: three A-grade A-levels at 16, a string of A* and A GCSEs spread from age 14-16 and I am currently studying Satellite Engineering at the best university in that field on target for a first class degree. I possess an outstanding technical insight, engineers intuition and the drive to see my ideas from conception to conclusion.

Highly skilled, I have worked on all kinds of personal and professional projects, from sewing to rocketry. I can turn my hands to most things and have at least a little experience in many areas too numerous to list. When motivated by a project I become very focused, often forgetting to eat, drink or sleep!

In other things, I'm not so good. I'm terrible at managing my finances or motivating myself to actually do my studies. Did I mention that I am lazy? In the previous academic year I blagged my 72% (first class) mark with little to no revision at all. I pay no attention in lectures, skip many of them and generally piss about. However, I still seem to do well, which has kinda reinforced that behaviour. I guess one day it will all come unglued, but for now I will just live with the guilt that if I could be bothered, I could do even better then I am now.

I'm a gadget fiend. I have more technology under my thumb then anyone I have met (with the possible exception of orona_red and his retro computer collection). Although a lot of my stuff is not leading edge, it's the way I use it which counts. My current PC is many years out of date, but will still whoop most complete systems bought from retailers.

When it comes to material possessions, I'm not generally fussed about whether something has a million and one functions and will light up and whistle the star spangled banner on command. Instead I am obsessed with quality and service. For example I bought a Maglite over a decade ago. It has never broken and is still going strong. In the event that it does break, I can return it to Maglite for repair, free of charge. Similarly I own a Zippo, a Kona Fire Mountain, Celestion F10s and other items renowned for their build quality, reliability, performance and lack of chrome. The only possible exception to this is my car - a Citroen AX which is French, reasonably reliable, wobbly and slow as thick molasses on a cold pane of glass. But I love it dearly and drive it like a loon.

I have a strong concept of honour, morals, principals and responsibilities. I am always looking for the right and honourable thing to do in a situation. I also keep my promises - If I have the slightest doubt that I might not be able to do something, I will not promise it. I'm a man of my word and I pride myself on that.

I'm a natural leader. I find myself taking charge in many situations from project work to Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. Although I say "taking charge" I am certainly not the bossy type. I can give orders when required, but generally I like to indulge in a democratic consultative leadership style.

I have good people skills. As a former Welsh Cadet of the Year, I was expected to meet civil dignitaries, royalty and others and convey a good impression of the St John youth movement who choose me to be their representative. I have attended many events, functions and receptions all over Wales, one or two in England and even an international event in Australia as an ambassador for St John Youth. I have also attended a royal reception at Buckingham Palace with Princess Ann. Generally I am quite good at reading peoples' expectations and presenting myself to suit.

What else? See my interests!
